China’s President Xi Jinping has committed the world’s top polluter to tougher climate targets and set out goals for cuts in greenhouse gas emissions by 2035. The pledge took place during a virtual meeting of global leaders this week, of which the US was absent, reports Bloomberg.

Meanwhile, in New York, comptroller Brad Lander has warned asset managers they may be dropped from NYC public pension funds if they do not comply with climate plans. BlackRock, which currently manages around $16.8 billion for NYC Employees’ Retirement System, is under particular pressure in light of its exit from the Net Zero Asset Owner Alliance.
