Of all the world’s largest economies, only the UK is aiming for the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C goal. Its pledge to cut carbon emissions 81% by 2035 is the only plan submitted so far that’s anywhere close to consistent with the Paris target, with 70% of world’s biggest economies missing the deadline to submit their plans to the UN. Meanwhile, the US has already started on its plans to pull out of the agreement. Bloomberg covers the story.

The UK government has announced subsidies for power company Drax to install a carbon capture system, with Drax’s CEO Will Gardiner calling the subsidies “an investment in UK energy security.” The Financial Times covers the story.
